Design of this stamp honored the 100th anniversary of the birth of Theodore Roosevelt, one of the first leaders in the movement to preserve the nation's natural resources. Central to the design are major aspects of forest conservation, including new growth of young trees and the harvesting of mature timber under scientific forest management; home and shelter for wildlife and birds; and, protected watersheds. The stamp was released at the annual meeting of the American Forestry Association.
