Blanche Stuart Scott first soloed as a pilot on September 10, at the age of 24.

She then moved into barnstorming with a daredevil troupe of aviators, such as
were popular in the early days of aviation.

Scott flew planes made of wooden frames, covered with canvas and utilizing
turnbuckles and wire for bracing.  The planes themselves were relatively
inexpensive to build and maintain, with the engine's being the principal
expense.

Such pilots were exposed to the elements while flying.

Later, Scott was a consultant to the Air Force Museum at Wright-Patterson Air
Force Base, Dayton, OH.
