James Whitcomb Riley's books The Old Swimmin' Hole and 'Leven More Poems, which sold well, made him one of the highest-paid poets of his time. His popularity was keyed to his use of dialect and his sentimental commemoration of the home virtues. Two of his best-known poems are Little Orphan Annie and When the Frost Is on the Punkin.
