Ruffed grouse
Grouse are popular game birds related to the turkey, quail, chachalaca, and domestic strains of poultry. Grouse have heavy bodies and are chicken-like ground dwellers with a short, heavy bill and short, rounded wings. Their size is between 12-35 inches (30-89 cm). Feet and nostrils are covered with feathers. Grouse make nearly ideal game birds because most species can withstand heavy hunting pressure.
