This stamp design depicts the Morris Township School No. 2, located in Devils Lake, ND. This particular country school was in use as a school from 1894 through 1960. Its depiction on a stamp is to honor the role of teachers and education in America's everyday life. George Washington said in 1795: "A plan of universal education ought to be adopted in the United States." Booker T. Washington said it a little differently in 1911: "I want to see education as common as grass, and as free for all as sunshine and rain." Albert Einstein commented on teachers: "It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge."
