Boy Scouts started in 1910, Girls Scouts formed in 1912
Lt. Gen. Robert Baden-Powell, retired from he British Army, in 1907 began what now is known worldwide as the “scouting movement.” Goal of the youth movement was to help youth in their spiritual, physical, and mental development to aid them in becoming responsible and constructive adults. In 2007, scouting had more than 38 million members in 216 countries. A strength of the program is adopting and modifying local ideologies.
