The Stourbridge Lion was one of the first of more than 100 English locomotives imported into the United States between 1829-1841. This engine was imported in 1829 by the Delaware & Hudson Railroad. One of the company's engineers, Horatio Allen, decided that the English engine was too heavy and rigid for American track.
