July Fourth, Grandma Moses
Grandma Moses was in her 70's when she began to paint, only to become known as this country's most renowned primitive painter. Her paintings were discovered about 1939 by Otto Kallir, an art dealer, who exhibited her work at his New York City gallery. She won many major art awards, and President Harry Truman presented her with the Women's National Press Club Award for outstanding accomplishment in art. The basic theme of her paintings was American rural life.
