The snowdrop – Galanthus – is among the first bulbs to bloom in spring. Some snowdrops are late autumn and winter. The flower is native to Europe, from the Pyrenees Mountains westward, through Germany and France to Poland, Italy, European Turkey, and Northern Greece. Snowdrops may bloom even before the crocus, and may poke through a layer of snow. The plant appears to be three drops of milk dangling from a stem. With the proper conditions, snowdrops will last a lifetime. An additional benefit is that neither deer nor rodents will eat them.
