The photograph of the U.S. Air Force Academy Cadet Chapel depicts the architectural centerpiece of the Academy's campus in morning light, bathed in natural amber and purple tones, from the perspective of the unique structure's southeast corner. Philip Handleman captured this majestic scene during a summer 2002 photo shoot in cooperation with the Academy.
The modernistic glass and aluminum house of worship contains Protestant, Catholic, and Jewish Chapels, as well as two all-faith rooms to accommodate other religions. The Cadet Chapel's multi-denominational program is open to all cadets on a voluntary basis. Completed in 1963, the Cadet Chapel is regarded as a paragon of American ecclesiastical design and acknowledged as the Academy's identifying landmark, annually drawing more tourists than any other man-made attraction in the state.
