The U.S. Postal Service celebrated the variety and beauty of American waterfalls with 12 new stamps, each featuring a photograph with the name of the waterfall and state in which it is located beneath it.
Grotto Falls is a beautiful waterfall located in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It is unique because it is the only waterfall in the Smokies that visitors can walk behind. This allows hikers to experience nature in a truly immersive way.
The waterfall is 25 feet tall and is surrounded by lush greenery in summer and colorful leaves in fall. The trail to Grotto Falls is an easy-paced, family-friendly trail that is 1.25 miles long from the trailhead to the waterfall. The trail is well-groomed and heavily trafficked, and along the way, you’ll see scenic meadows, evergreen forests, natural beauty, wildlife, and wildflowers. At the waterfall, you’ll find benches and picnic tables for your resting and picnic spot. The area is closed over winter.
