Commemorative issue Washington 2006 World Philatelic Exhibition
U.S. Capitol
The $2 U.S. Capitol stamp was issued in Washington, DC, Mar. 20, 1923. It features another engraving by Louis S. Schofield; it is based on a photograph of the East Front of the Capitol in the collection of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing.
World Philatelic Exhibitions are international events held under the patronage of the Fédération Internationale de Philatélie. In general, these exhibitions are held at least annually, drawing thousands of stamp collectors and others interested in philately to host cities around the world. A U.S. city is chosen to host the family-oriented event once every decade.
