The goose is a web-footed water bird of the family that also includes the duck and swan. Geese are largely vegetarian and find much of their food on land. They also eat various grains. Geese are classified into wild and domestic varieties. The Canada goose is wild and probably the best known of the wild geese. Because the human population has grown and destroyed former breeding grounds, the Canada goose now breeds in larger numbers along streams, lakes, and ponds closer to urban centers.
