The Pittsburgh Steelers are the fifth-oldest franchise in the National Football League. In 1970, the team moved into Three Rivers Stadium and with the AFL-NFL merger they were one of three old-line teams that switched to the newly formed league. With Chuck Noll as the new coach in 1969, the team’s fortunes changed and the Steelers advanced to the playoffs eight times during the 1970s and won the Super Bowl four times in six years.
