Design of this stamp commemorated the 350th anniversary of the shipbuilding industry in America and featured the Virginia of Sagadahock, the first ship built in America to participate in world commerce. The ship was completed in Popham Colony, Maine, in 1607. Illustration of the ship was taken from an artist's conception of its appearance.
