This stamp design is based on a painting by Battista Cima de Conegliano, circa 1497. The original painting is housed at the North Carolina Museum of Art at Raleigh. Cima de Conegliano was an Italian Renaissance painter active in Venice from 1492 to 1516. His contemplative paintings reveal the strong influence of Giovanni Bellini and Vittore Carpaccio.
