Steven Spielberg’s childhood imaginary friend became the basis of the 1982 science fiction film “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.” The story line involves a lonely boy who befriends an extraterrestrial (space alien) who/that is stranded on Earth. The boy and his siblings help E.T. return home, while attempting to keep it hidden from their mother and the government. The film became the most financially successful film to that point and is considered the greatest science fiction film ever. The film was re-released both in 1985 and 2002.
