Observed from December 26 through January 1, Kwanzaa is a U.S. holiday honoring African culture and heritage. On each of the seven days is a celebration featuring candle lighting, the giving of gifts, libations and a feast. The holiday was created by Ron Karenga to be first celebrated in the end of 1966. He developed the event as the first holiday to be specifically African-American.
