British Gen. Sir Robert Baden-Powell founded the Boy Scouts organization in 1908. He had written a book on military reconnaissance and scouting. It had become so popular that he wrote Scouting for Boys in 1908. The U.S. organization, Boy Scouts of America, was founded in 1910 on Baden -Powell's model. Various Scouting programs are open to young men between the ages of seven and 21.
