Annie Oakley, known as "Little Sure Shot," could hit a dime with a bullet from a distance of ninety feet and could shoot a playing card in half. By age sixteen, Oakley, who was born in 1860, had challenged and bested the well-known marksman Frank Butler, whom she later married. From 1885 to 1902, she displayed her special skill of stunt shooting as a leading attraction in Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show. The popular musical Annie Get Your Gun was based on her life.
