Lawrence Tibbett
Lawrence Tibbett not only was an opera singer, but he will was a radio personality, recording artist, and movie actor. He was with the Metropolitan Opera Company from 1923-1950 and performed roles ranging from Captain Hook in “Peter Pan” top Iago in “Otello.” Son of a deputy sheriff killed in a 1903 shootout, Tibbett early earned money singing in church choirs and at funerals. He served in the U.S. Merchant Marine during World War I. His first contract with the Metropolitan Opera, in 1923, was for $60 a week.
