Commemorative issue Duck decoys - American folk art
Duck decoys
Designs for these four stamps were based on actual decoys. The broadbill decoy was carved by Ben Holmes of Stratford, CT, in 1890; the mallard decoy by Percy Grant of Osbornville, NJ, in 1900; the canvasback by Bob McGraw of Havre de Grace, MD, in 1929, and, the redhead by Keyes Chadwick of Martha's Vineyard, MA, in 1925. Within the genre of folk art, sculptures such as these are grouped with ship figureheads and scrimshaw.
