Oglala Sioux Indians considered Crazy Horse as one of their greatest warriors. He led the resistance to the U.S. government's forced settlement of the Sioux on the Pine Ridge reservation. Along with Sitting Bull, Crazy Horse lived off the reservation, hunting freely and harassing traditional native enemies and the white intruders. The Sioux were ordered back to the reservation in December 1875. Crazy Horse engaged Gen. George Crook in battle. Among the series of confrontations was the Battle of Little Bighorn, where Gen. George Custer and his Seventh Cavalry were defeated.
