Although Snow White is a fairy tale known from many European countries, the best-known version was collected by the Brothers Grimm. The Grimm version incorporated the seven dwarfs and magic mirror. The dwarfs were given names in the 1912 Broadway play and renamed in the 1937 Disney film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, which this stamp commemorates. The various versions had the dwarfs generally as robbers and the major mirror an entryway to dialogue with the sun or moon. Although origin of the tale is not known, it is generally believed not to date before the Middle Ages.
