One of the most successful American entrepreneurs, Walt Disney won a record 30 Academy Awards. He was the creator of the cartoon Mickey Mouse, and many others, and a film innovator. He also founded an entertainment empire that now spans three continents. When his Kansas City animation studio failed in 1923, he and Ub Iwerks established a new studio in Hollywood. From that facility came the famed cartoon rodent. Although his first cartoons were in black-and-white, by the 1930's all Disney cartoons were in color and his famed stable of animal characters was nearly complete. His Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 1938 was the first feature-length animated film.
