The eastern white pine, a native of North America with distribution in Canada and the northeastern United States, is the tallest conifer found east of the Rocky Mountains. It can grow to a height of 260 feet (78 m) with a girth of 20 feet (6 m). The western white pine extends in range from southern British Columbia to the western slopes of the Rocky Mountains in northern Montana, the coast of Oregon and Washington, and the Cascade and Sierra Nevada Ranges in California. It is one of the most prominent species in the timber belt of the Sierra Nevada.
