Commemorative issue Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts
Charles Wilson Peale at museum
Founded in 1805, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts is the nation's oldest art school in continuous existence. It also was the first public art museum. The academy is a continuation of a drawing school begun in 1791 by Charles Wilson Peale. Paintings and sculptures acquired over the past 175 years offer a unique opportunity to study the changes in taste that have taken place during that time.
