On the seventy-fifth anniversary of the ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment, which granted women the right to vote, this single commemorative stamp design was issued. The Nineteenth Amendment, originally named in of honor its author, Susan B. Anthony, was written in 1848 at the first Women's Rights Convention, held in Seneca Falls, New York. It was part of the "Declaration of Sentiments," modeled after the Declaration of Independence, which also included resolutions for women's educational opportunity and equality under the law. Today, 54 percent of the nation's registered voters are women.
