The Yellow Kid

The first popular newspaper color cartoon was Hotan's Alley, starring the Yellow Kid. The tenement exploits of the Irish immigrant kid ignited public affection. When two New York newspapers fought over rival versions, the term "Yellow Journalism" was born.
