Early in 1945, the Allies liberated German concentration camps, freeing Jewish and other inmates who lived through the Holocaust. About two-thirds of the Jews of Europe had been murdered during the Holocaust, more than had been slain in pogroms, or massacres of a particular minority group, during the previous eighteen hundred years.
