“Girl in Red Dress with Cat and Dog” is believed to have been painted by Ammi Phillips. The oil-on-canvas was researched extensively by Barbara and Larry Holdridge, with their conclusion coming in 1965. Phillips was born in Colebrook, CT, in 1788. He was a traveling artist whose range extended in the Berkshire Mountains and who would paint “correct likenesses.” His works are known over a 50-year period.
