Alexander Calder was a renowned sculptor who began his education as an engineering student, moved to drawing courses, and began to work for the magazine “National Police Gazette” in 1924. He moved to Paris in 1926 and his first sculpture came the following year. His early work was with mobiles, moving to more complex construction that involved small motors. Moving then in a different direction, he tuned to heavy constructions of sheet metal. He work also included jewelry, graphic arts, stage designs, and book illustrations.
