A reminder of the importance of good dental health was combined with recognition of the work of the nation's largest organization of dentists. Dentistry has eight recognized specialties. Dental public health focused on preventing and controlling dental diseases and promoting good dental health through community efforts. Endodontics is devoted to the treatment of the tooth's nerve and root end. Oral and maxillofacial surgery deals with tooth removal and surgical therapy of oral abnormalities. Oral pathology concentrates on diagnosis and treatment of pathologic conditions affecting the oral cavity. Orthodontics is devoted to utilizing braces to correct tooth alignment. Pediatric dentistry concentrates on dental problems of children and adolescents. Periodontics focuses on diseases of the gums and bone, the tooth's supporting structures. Prosthodontics deals with the replacement of missing teeth.
