Known first in England in the 1800s, crossword puzzles are credited to journalist Arthur Wynne. The first known publication of a crossword puzzle was December 21, 1913, in the New York World. Other newspapers because to carry such puzzles in the 1920s and, soon, nearly every newspaper has crossword puzzles as a regular feature.
