Also known as the American saddle horse (and by other names) the saddlebred is a fashionable light horse popular for its ability in the show ring. It has a regal bearing and performs with arched neck and uplifted tail. The saddlebred originally was developed from the thoroughbred and the Morgan. Three-gaited saddlebreds walk, trot and canter. Five-gaited saddlebreds also perform a slow and fast gait in which only one foot touches the ground at a time.
