The commemorative stamp of 1996 honoring computer technology certainly had a lot to honor from the first computer through the issue date. Since that time, however, an amazing array of innovations and improvements make the “computer world” of 1996 seem nearly the Dark Ages. At the time of this stamp, cell phones were in their infancy, and had none of the “smartphone” technology we now take for granted. The concept of wi-fi, automobiles that both are trackable and also can communication on their own, and personal GPS were not on the comsumer horizon.
