Commemorative issue Printing in America 300th anniversary
Stephen Daye Press
Stephen Daye established the first printing operation in British America. He contracted with the Rev. Jesse Glover in 1638 to set up a plant in New England. Although Rev. Glover died, Daye used the equipment his late employer had imported to set up his shop in Cambridge, MA. Daye managed the plant until 1649, during which time 22 titles were produced. The first was a broadside, "The Freeman's Oath," in 1639. Best known among the works produced under Daye's supervision was the Bay Psalm Book, in 1640, the first book published in British North America.
