Created by Xavier Roberts and Debbie Morehead in 1978, the Cabbage Patch Kids are all-cloth dolls originally sold at local craft shows. The concept went on to be one of the popular toy fads of the 1980s and one of the longest-running doll franchises in the United States. Toy manufacturer Coleco began mass production of the dolls in 1982. Hasbro took over Cabbage Patch Kids rights in 1988, selling rights to Mattel in 1994. Toys R Us took over the brand from Mattel in 2003.
