While at Yale, Cole Porter composed the school songs Bingo Eli Yale and Bulldog. After graduation, he entered Harvard Law School and realized after one semester that he should pursue music as a career. He continued to compose, and his musical See America First was not a hit. Porter's first successful musical was Paris, produced in 1928. His formula for songs was to choose the title first, and then write the music and words to fit it. From that approach came Night and Day, I Get a Kick out of You, and Begin the Beguine.
