Art deco’s period is considered to be between 1920 and 1939 – the period between the two world wars, although many trace the period back to 1900 and forward to the late 1950s. The design period was not restricted to architecture, but to all fine and applied art: furniture, sculpture, clothing, jewelry and graphic design. The style is a modernization of many older artistic styles and themes, with influences as far back as Middle and Far Eastern design, Roman and Green themes, and perhaps even Mayan and Egyptian works.
