Geese are web-footed water birds of the same family as ducks and swans. They find most of their food on land, because they largely are vegetarian and enjoy browsing on grasses. They also eat many grains. Geese are classified into wild and domestic varieties. Among the wild geese is the Canada goose, Branta canadensis, which is the best known. As human population has grown and destroyed former Canada goose breeding grounds, the goose has been breeding in larger numbers along streams, lakes, and ponds closer to urban centers.
