The Statue of Liberty was designed by French sculptor Frederic-Auguste Bartholdi with assistance from engineer and Eiffel Tower designer Alexandre-Gustave Eiffel. The statue is located on Liberty Island in New York Harbor and is a gift from France to the United States in recognition of the friendship that developed during the American Revolution.
