Mary Lyon persevered in her attempts to provide increasing educational opportunities for women. She founded what now is Mount Holyoke College at South Hadley, MA. After 13 years of teaching, she teamed with Zilpah Grant to establish a seminary at Ipswich, MA, in 1828. She remained there until 1934. For the next three years, Lyon raised money to establish a school for women that would provide a quality education at an affordable cost. She opened Mount Holyoke Female Seminary with 80 students. In 1888 the institution's name was changed to Mount Holyoke Seminary and College and to Mount Holyoke College in 1893. The enrollment today approaches 2,000 students.
