The stamp shows both heirloom and cherry tomatoes.
Heirloom tomatoes encompass all varieties that have been passed down through the generations. Their seeds are passed on to continue classifications as “heirloom,” at least since about 1940. The term, then, is not for a single variety, but includes all varieties that meet that criteria.
Cherry tomatoes are small, round tomatoes thought to be a mixture between domesticated garden tomatoes and currant-type tomatoes. They can range from slightly oblong to spherical. First reference in history is believed to be in 1623 by a Swiss botanist.
