Considered by many as “the most beautiful passenger train in the world,” the Coast Daylight was a passenger train run on the Southern Pacific Railroad between Los Angeles and San Francisco, CA. The train had an orange, red, and black color scheme. Its first run was March 21, 1937. In 1971, Amtrak—which took over the train from the Southern Pacific—re-routed the Coast Daylight to Oakland so it could continue northward to Portland, OR.
