The late Claude Pepper was a U.S. senator from Florida who had a 60-year political career and was known as a champion of the elderly. Among his other achievements was helping to pioneer lend-lease legislation that helped Great Britain for the United States entered World War II, co=sponsoring a bill to repeal the poll tax, and promoting compulsory military service. As he grew older, he increased his activity against those who willfully took advantage of the elderly.
